Offering historic sites, shopping opportunities, recreation and quality of life Bronte is located on the edge of West Texas. The city was named for English writer Charlotte Bronte. Ruins of Fort Chadbourne, established in 1852, lie northeast of the city. Downtown features include the historic Santa Fe Depot and the Texas Theatre. Antique shops, specialty shops and other businesses line Main Street. Good fishing is only 15 minutes away at Lake Spence and Oak Creek Lake. The area has abundant hunting with deer, quail, turkey and dove. The city offers a public golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts, and softball fields. The Senior Citizen Center offers a wide variety of activities. In addition to the wonderful local benefits, numerous attractions, recreation facilities and entertainment opportunities are also found in nearby communities making Bronte an ideal place to live as well as visit.
