Brownwood
“MEET YOU AT THE DEPOT WHEN YOU COME!”

Brownwood was founded in 1875 when Greenleaf Fisk, retired Senator of the Republic of Texas, donated land for the town site and persuaded many to move to the 60 acres he donated from his land grant of 1280 acres. History lives on in Brownwood at the Brown County Museum, the Firearms Museum of Texas, the Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom, the fully restored 1909 Santa Fe Railroad Station and Harvey House, WWII Park, and newly opened Lehnis Railroad Museum. Today Brownwood is the home of major industries including 3-M, Kohler, and Superior Essex, as well as many locally owned businesses and service providers. Brownwood is a sportsman’s paradise, with excellent hunting and Lake Brownwood water recreation, fishing and swimming. Entertainment and culture abounds in Brownwood, with regular events, festivals, performances, art exhibits and sporting events. The Downtown District is filled with a variety of shops and restaurants. Brownwood invites visitors to discover why Brownwood “Feels like home.” Chamber/Convention & Visitors Bureau, 600 A Depot, Brownwood TX 76804, 325-646-9535, brownwoodchamber@web-access.net
