Stamford
Home of the Texas Cowboy Reunion
Stamford
is a diverse city with a modern economy based on agriculture, oil, manufacturing
and retail. In November of 1899 the Stamford Townsite Company was organized.
Henry McHarg, president of the Texas Central Railway, named the town for his
hometown of Stamford, Connecticut. Today Stamford serves as the headquarters
of the S. M. Swenson Land and Cattle Company, one of the oldest ranches in the
state encompassing 54,000 acres of ranch and farmland. The Texas Cowboy Reunion,
held annually during the 4th of July weekend, attracts people from all over
the country. Hunters flock to Stamford during hunting season to take advantage
of the abundant dove, quail, deer and turkey. For real down-home Texas hospitality,
come out where both the mesquite trees and the friendly people are thick. Chamber
